Lose weightIf losing weight were easy, then there wouldn’t be any overweight people. After all, nobody really wants to exceed a healthy body weight. Carrying around too many pounds can significantly affect your well-being, not to mention the fact that excess pounds also shorten your lifespan. Unfortunately, while you may know that you should lose weight, it’s often easier said than done. But even though obesity is a disease, your doctor can’t help you lose weight.

You Have to Take Action

You may have a very supportive doctor who gives you really good advice on weight loss. If your doctor can suggest more than eating less and exercising more, then you are already talking to one of a few. By now, numerous studies have shown that weight loss is more than just calories in versus calories out. In fact, losing weight actually has a lot more to do with what you eat and how your body processes your food.

For an overweight individual, the body isn’t really capable of burning fat and building muscle. There can be a variety of reasons for that. Number one, crash diets encourage your body to retain fat when there is not enough food and pack on the pounds when you eat more. Number two, in an overweight person, the entire body is out of balance. For example, there is not enough muscle that burns energy (aka calories) efficiently. Finally, when you’re overweight, your hormones are probably functioning properly.

Start from the Inside Out

When you want to lose weight, you probably want to do so for the sake of your appearance. But the trick about losing weight successfully is that you can’t start on the outside. In order to get your body back in shape and keep it there, you have to obtain optimal health. Losing weight is actually more about becoming healthy than it is about making cosmetic changes to your body.

At the Revive Health Center, we know how weight loss works. We know that you can’t lose weight if your hormones are out of whack, even if you eat an all-salad diet. That’s why we start the process by evaluating your health. When you take into consideration how important your hormones are, it’s surprising that most doctors don’t start there first. But if even just one of your hormone levels is too low, that can affect everything you do. Therefore, before you join a gym or start a new diet, you should come and talk to us about losing weight the right way!
