Woman in MenopauseWhile all women go through menopause, it doesn’t seem to affect everyone equally. Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict how easy menopause will be for you until you reach it. The length of menopause can also vary widely from a year or two to over a decade. That’s why it’s important to think about what you can do to make your life easier. After all, you don’t know how long menopause is here to stay. So what should a woman in menopause do?

You Should Eat Well

Eating right has never been more important. Good nutrition can make a world of difference for everyone. As you get older, you may not need as many calories, but you’ll certainly need the same amount of nutrients or more. A woman going through menopause should pay special attention to Vitamin D and calcium, because both are important for bone health. And if you’re undergoing hormone therapy, you may also need extra iron.

You Should Stay Active

You already know that you should exercise, but few people do what’s best for them. If you can incorporate more activity during your day, that could already make a big difference. For example, you might try to walk or ride a bike instead of going by car. However, it’s also a good idea to incorporate strength training twice a week into your fitness routine. This is not supposed to make you bulk up, but instead it will help you build lean muscle.

Stop Bad Habits

If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to quit smoking. Smoking is detrimental to your overall health, but it can specifically harm your bone health. If you don’t smoke, you’ll still need to stay away from second-hand smoke for the same reason. And if you smoke, then you’ll probably need to find help to quit the bad habit. Other bad habits to get rid of may include the daily pint of ice-cream or watching too much TV.

Seek Medical Advice

Even when you’re eating a perfect diet (which is quite impossible to begin with), menopause is not going to pass you by without symptoms. That’s why you may want to seek medical advice to find some relief. At the Revive Health Center, we specialize in hormone replacement therapy. However, our approach to your health and well-being is well-rounded. Give us a call to make an appointment with one of our doctors to get your life back on track.
